“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”
The truth of Jesus’ resurrection is the best news on the planet. It is not a crutch for those with no hope. Jesus is true Hope. He is an absolutely certain Hope.
If your hope amounts to “staying safe”, I beg you, please read on ––
Jesus, before He raised a man called Lazarus from the dead, said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.”
Lazarus believed in Jesus as his Lord. Yet when Jesus spoke these words, Lazarus was dead, and his body was beginning to smell. “Everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die”?? Was Jesus deluded??
Jesus was pointing to a fundamental truth: When we put our trust in Jesus, that He died on the cross for our sins and was raised to life three days later –– then His death becomes our death. When Jesus died, we died with Him. And when Jesus came back to everlasting life, so did we.
And if this doesn’t fit neatly together in our heads, thankfully it doesn’t have to. We only need to believe that Jesus is Lord and that God has raised Him from the dead. Then we will have already passed from death to everlasting life.
For the Christian, physical death is a small thing. Our true death happened long before our frail bodies began to breathe. And our everlasting life is now forever secure in Jesus.
